Ra was the Egyptian sun god, the most important deity of all. He rose each morning from his home in the east and traveled across the sky, giving life to all things. He was born at sunrise on a lotus flower after being created by Atum-Ra, who also made him king of all gods. Ra had many forms but was most often depicted as a man with falcon wings, wearing the red crown of Lower Egypt and holding an ankh scepter in one hand and a staff with an eye on top in the other hand. The Egyptians believed he gave them light every day when he sailed across heaven in his boat called "The Boat of Millions" which contained everything needed for life—even people!
